Filmed live at The Garage in Leeds, here is another example of the ‘live music video’ genre pioneered by the element of the production company Left Eye Blind known as The Blind Club – and in this case Director/DoP James Rhodes and his team have captured a performance by ‘post rock’ noise exponents Vessels – a band with strong Blind Club connections.
James explains: “Pete from Vessels has been a long time member of our team, picking up almost all sound recording duties for The Blind Club, so when he said to me that he and his band had some new material it was a no-brainer to plan a session.
“Vessels were formally categorised under post-rock, but have realigned their sights on techno music for their new record. They have a great reputation for fantastic live shows so this change of direction posed the perfect challenge for us to shoot one of our signature sessions, the key question being – ‘How cool would it be to see Vessels rock out some techno?’
“It was always going to be a huge task to hold any viewers attention for over six minutes. I thought most people would just listen to the audio while they do other things on their laptops, so this was taken as an opportunity to have some fun with the photography. I experimented with a few different techniques such as partially synced high speed photography, and a choppy looking low shutter angle, which I hoped would battle with the audiences urge to click away, being something just out of the ordinary.”
